The regents' executive director coordinates preparation and submission of legislative bills authorized by the board; monitors the progress of legislation affecting higher education; provides reports to the board, the presidents, and superintendents; and presents testimony - as authorized by the Board of Regents - on legislation that affects the public higher education system.

Higher Education Policy in the News:


December 3, 2015 -- South Dakota’s public universities retain nearly three-quarters of their home-grown graduates in state, according to the latest Board of Regents’ placement study.

December 2, 2015 -- Traditional enrollment patterns at South Dakota public universities are changing. A new study by the South Dakota Board of Regents reports campuses are serving fewer traditional students, while significantly expanding service to new segments of the market, such as high school students and students attending college from outside of the state.


October 15, 2015 -- Creating a statewide goal for young, working-age residents to hold a postsecondary credential is an important starting point for discussions with other higher education providers, policymakers, community advocates, and business leaders.


April 2, 2015 -- The South Dakota Board of Regents Thursday approved tuition and mandatory fees for the upcoming academic year. The impact to students in the public university system is an average cost increase of $455.76 per year, or 5.8 percent.
