SPEARFISH, S.D. – The South Dakota Board of Regents (BOR) is excited to announce the approval of two new programs designed to address the evolving industry demands while enhancing educational opportunities for students and professionals alike. These initiatives reflect the Board’s commitment to preparing South Dakota’s workforce and fostering collaboration across the state’s higher education system.
Northern State University’s Bachelor of Science in Agricultural Business
Northern State University (NSU) will launch a Bachelor of Science in Agricultural Business, a program that combines business fundamentals with agricultural applications. Students will explore operations management, financial analysis, data analytics, commodity markets, trade, and marketing. A cornerstone of the program is a required internship, enabling students to gain hands-on experience with one of the region’s numerous agricultural business employers.
This program will be offered in collaboration with South Dakota State University (SDSU), providing 12 credits in agricultural economics. The partnership combines the strengths of both institutions to deliver a comprehensive and specialized curriculum, ensuring that graduates are well-prepared to meet the demands of South Dakota’s thriving agriculture industry.
“The Agricultural Business degree at NSU is a prime example of how our institutions work together to provide meaningful, high-impact programs,” said Nathan Lukkes, BOR Executive Director. “This coursework will prepare graduates to excel in their fields while addressing critical workforce gaps in agriculture and business leadership.”
University of South Dakota’s Executive Master of Business Administration (eMBA)
The University of South Dakota (USD) is introducing an Executive Master of Business Administration (eMBA) program tailored to develop leaders through immersive, intensive, and transformative experiences. This advanced degree is designed for existing professionals seeking to enhance their strategic planning, leadership, and business understanding.
The eMBA program focuses on helping individual learners achieve their career advancement goals while aligning with their current organization’s strategic priorities. By developing advanced leadership skills, the program aims to support the growth and innovation of businesses and industries in South Dakota. The program will be based out of USD-Sioux Falls, with courses available in Sioux Falls and online through a hybrid/hyflex modality. This degree strives to meet the demand for MBA-credentialed professionals ready to progress in the Sioux Falls area, a need identified by local industry leaders.
“These new programs are a testament to our universities’ ability to innovate and collaborate to meet the needs of South Dakota’s workforce,” said Tim Rave, President of the South Dakota Board of Regents. “By aligning educational opportunities with industry demand, we’re not just preparing students—we’re investing in the economic future of our state.”
By combining resources and expertise within the system and the state of South Dakota, these initiatives will empower students and professionals to succeed in competitive and dynamic industries.
